Will you share my email address?

No. We do not share your address with anyone. Only moderators can see the membership list on the Yahoo!groups site and only a handful of Pyle parents or staff members have access to the student database where your email address is also listed.

I am getting too many emails!

If you feel as if you are receiving too many pylenet messages consider changing your message delivery option. There are a number of ways to receive pylenet messages:

  • individual emails
  • daily digest
  • no email (web access only)

[back]

How do I change my message delivery options?

Either email joinpylenet@gmail.com and request to change your message delivery to daily digest or no email. Or log into yahoogroups (requires a yahoo ID) at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pylenet/ and click "edit my membership" in the upper right hand corner. There you will see four radio buttons under the heading "Message Delivery". Choose either daily digest or no email if you wish to have fewer emails sent to your address. Choose individual emails if you are receiving the daily digest or no email. Choose the "change settings" button at the bottom.

Note that for any changes, it sometimes takes up to a day for it to "kick-in".

[back]

May my son or daughter join pylenet?

No one may join pylenet except for parents/guardians and Pyle staff and faculty.

How do I send a message to pylenet?

Send a message to pylenet@yahoogroups.com. Make sure you have provided a descriptive subject and be sure to sign the email.

[back]

Will the moderators send a pylenet message for me?

Yes the moderators will send pylenet messages for you. However it is best for you to send the message because it is easier for others to reply to you if they have a question. Often when a moderator sends out the email, the moderator ends up having to forward several emails to the person who wanted the email sent.

If you need a moderator to send an email, send it to joinpylenet@gmail.com or lguthman@comcast.net and one of them will send it for you. Please make sure it is written exactly as you want it to look. The moderator will add a line at the top indicating the contact person.

[back]

What is appropriate for pylenet?

Pylenet is a PTSA sponsored email list. Appropriate content consists of PTSA related information and Pyle related information. Occasionally information for the Pyle community such as SSL opportunities and extra curricular educational activities are posted. Please see the guidelines for more information.

[back]

What is inappropriate for pylenet?

Anything not fitting into the above categories of PTSA and/or Pyle related information is not appropriate for pylenet. In addition, general discussion is not permitted. Messages may not directly or indirectly relate to any political campaign on behalf of, or in opposition to, any candidate for public office. Please see the guidelines for more information.

[back]

I don't seem to be receiving all the messages.

Unless you are signed up for the daily digest or no mail, you should be receiving all pylenet messages at all subscribed email addresses. However, that is the nature of email. Sometimes messages are not delivered for one reason or the other, most likely because of server problems. There is not a lot that can be done about this. Report it to your email provider if it is a continuing problem.

[back]

May I forward messages to pylenet?

Sure you may forward messages with appropriate content to pylenet. But please don't just hit "foward" in your email program. If you do, you may get something that looks like this which looks ugly, unprofessional and hard to read::

I received an email about a terrible virus that was deleting data from hard drives of computers. Should I forward that?

No. But feel free to send it to joinpylenet@gmail.com.

I am only interested in information about my child's grade. Can I get grade/team level emails only?

No. Pylenet is not set up to send out child specific emails. Delete the ones that don't interest you.

**This is a good time to remind people to make sure to provide descriptive subjects when writing your emails, especially if they are grade specific.

How do I get an item on the pylenet calendar?

Send the information you want placed on the calendar. Indicate when you want reminders sent out. The default is 1 week and 2 days before the event. Let the moderators know if you want it changed to a different reminder schedule. The limit is two times. Be aware that you should give a good title for the event and a brief description as well as beginning and ending times, unless the event is an all day event.

I am not getting any pylenet messages.

If you know that you are subscribed to pylenet the first thing you should do is check your junk or bulk folder. Sometimes pylenet messages get caught in spam filters. Hotmail is the biggest problem in this area.

If there are no pylenet messages in your junk/bulk/spam folders then try sending an email to pylenet-subscribe@yahoogroups.com If you receive a reply that you are already on pylenet, send an email to joinpylenet@gmail.com and explain the situation. Be sure to state that there was no pyle messages in your junk/bulk/spam folders.

[back]

I'm getting two pylenet messages for each post, can you stop that?

This is trickier. Send an email to joinpylenet@gmail.com and explain the situation. We may have to unsubscribe you and resubscribe you.

[back]

I received an email saying I was removed from pylenet. I don't want to leave!

If you genuinely belong on pylenet (you have students at Pyle or work there) send a message to joinpylenet@gmail.com and request to be reinstated (or use one of the other methods for joining). If your child has moved on to Whitman and you just want to keep up with Pyle -- have a friend forward you the messages. If you think you should be on pylenet for another reason, email joinpylenet@gmail.com and we will consider your subscription.

[back]

How can I view the pylenet website at Yahoo!groups?

Visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pylenet/ . You will need a Yahoo ID.

[back]

Is pylenet listed in the Yahoo!groups directory?

No. Pylenet is not listed in the Yahoo!groups directory.

I signed up for a Yahoo! email address or ID and am getting a lot of product information I am not interested in. How can I stop this?

This won't stop all SPAM, but make sure you have set the radio buttons to NO in all of the categories on your marketing preferences page. To get to this page, first log into your Yahoo! mail account. In the upper left hand corner you should see a link that reads "my account". Select it. You will need to provide your password again. On the next page you should see a link that says "edit your marketing preferences". Make sure you have selected NO for all of the radio buttons. Their default is "yes" when you signed up.
